Closing this report because there was no response since 8 weeks from the initial poster and no one else is able to reproduce it.

Hi janpaul and "diskfailure".
Please provide a full gdb backtrace as suggested by Mike.

Please also add the version of libfltk-dev and libv4l-dev. Is only Ubuntu 32bit affected by this?

A full gdb backtrace would be helpful to diagnose this problem. If you are installing Octave from the Ubuntu repository, you should install the octave-dbg package to get debug symbols for the Octave binary packages.

I am still unable to reproduce this with 3.8.0 or 3.8.1 on Debian testing and on Ubuntu 14.04 beta.

Reply Comment 4: Correct I just did try the same with a lower version image-acquisition (0.1.1) to get more info.

Reply Comment 5: I do get a segmentation fault, I just left that line out of the comment, see picture attached.

And to clear more up, I get this error when running in both prompt's(shell and octave).

Can you please clarify, when do you get a crash and when do you get the error you saw in comment #2?

This is not the same error as the original report. Your error does not result in a segmentation fault while installing.

Regardless, please try the latest version of the image-acquisition package, it should fix the error you are seeing (comment #2).

Also I did what you asked.

The problem is only with image-acquisition, no other.
and it crashes from both prompt's.

GDB only gives this information:
0xb13c2fc4 in octave_char_matrix::octave_char_matrix(char const*) ()

anything else I can do to help?
When I have time I will do the same on my Ubuntu 12, but should not matter.

[Same as originator; Trying to help]
I did try to install image-acquisition version 0.1.1 manually ( echo pkg install image-acquisition-0.1.1.tar.gz | octave )
And this gave me a different error:

cl_img_win.cc: In member function 'void img_win::custom_label(const char*, unsigned int, double)':
cl_img_win.cc:83:11: error: 'snprintf' was not declared in this scope
g++: error: cl_img_win.o: no such file or directory

But then is does give the default finished message about: run news....

I did search for the file (cl_img_win.o) and did find it in the /tmp/oct-######/ folder next to the .h and the .cc

Thanks for your bug report. It would be helpful if you could run Octave in gdb and provide a stacktrace. See http://wiki.octave.org/Debugging_Octave for information on debugging Octave.

I'm assuming that Octave is the program that segfaulted, is that correct? Did the segfault message return you to the Octave prompt or to a shell prompt?

Does the command "pkg list -forge" also cause Octave to segfault? Does installing different Octave Forge packages cause Octave to segfault?

I run Ubuntu 13.04 32bit. 1G RAM - 2 core CPU intel.
In a virtual machine (VMware).

I compiled the source with libraries (libcurl) to use package manager.

When I do:
pkg install -forge image-acquisition
I get:
panic: Segmentation fault -- stopping myself...
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

are there are any logs I can retrieve somewhere and upload?
I did not reproduce/re-try it on another machine. But this is a fresh installation.
