Welcome to Savannah, the software forge for people committed to Free Software:

  • We host free projects that run on free operating systems and without any proprietary software dependencies
  • Our service runs with 100% free software, including itself
  • Why choose Savannah?

Savannah aims to be a central point for development, maintenance and distribution of official GNU software. In additions, for projects that are free software but not part of the GNU project we provide savannah.nongnu.org.

If you would like to use these facilities to host your project, then go to the Register new project menu entry.

We provide two mailing lists that you may want to subscribe to:

  • savannah-announce: low-volume notifications of important issues and changes at Savannah
  • savannah-users: help with using Savannah in general (not a specific project)

Our https certificate is signed by the CAcert authority, which you can import.

We're rewritting Savane! Come help us create the new foundation for Forge innovation - see SavaneRewrite.

Coordination and time zones

We just experimented with the nice pytz/python-tz library, to display the local time in all time zones:

What do you think? Do you know about tools that would help people with setting up a meeting time when working from different countries? Probably a good thing to add to Savannah :)

CVS/SVN/Git/Hg reverted to ~12h ago
posted by Beuc, Wed 21 Oct 2009 08:23:30 AM UTC - 3 replies

We moved these services to a new hardware, but within around 1 hour, there was a filesystem error, making everything read-only.

We moved back these services to their old hardware, and are now investigating.

Instant replication from web front-end to system
posted by Beuc, Sat 08 Aug 2009 06:48:55 PM UTC - 0 replies

We changed the way users and groups are replicated on the system (where they are used for SSH access): now the system can query the database directly. This means most account operations will be immediately effective (group memberships), while others will only have a 5-minutes delay (ssh keys updates). ...

Removing old user accounts with no past activity
posted by Beuc, Thu 30 Jul 2009 01:06:03 PM UTC - 14 replies

We're currently working on a new web front-end that will be easier to improve and maintain.

When working on data migration we saw that more than 1/2 user accounts are inactive, that is, they registered more than one year ago, they didn't submit ...

All services are running fine now, except for a few things to fix in webcvs replication.

CVS/SVN/Git/Hg: no need to send new recovery requests, all repos are restored, either from your instructions, either from the May 27 backup.

Arch/Bzr: restored from May 29 ...

Savannah now runs on Debian Lenny
posted by Beuc, Tue 03 Mar 2009 09:22:44 PM UTC - 13 replies

The whole Savannah infrastructure has now switched from Debian Etch (4.0) to Debian Lenny (5.0). Thanks to the VServer technology, we could upgrade each part independently over a few days with only a few minutes of downtime.
