@anonymous - are you certain your crash is related to this old/closed bug report?

perhaps it would be better for you to post a detailed description of your problem in the Help section over at https://octave.discourse.group/

This Crash bug make me desperate, I am going to give a lecture on GnU Octave in a few days, and casting the desktop to a screen is crucial..

@Torsten yes it is similar to 45459.  I posted bug "#52839: Octave GUI Crash on Snap or Startup" because, on my system, it appears to be related to heap corruption after snapping the window to the right side of the screen.

I deleted both files at once so I don't know if deletion of q-settings xor octave_kbf.pap would have worked around it.

I guess, bug #45459 is tightly connected to Ron's report. Ron, could you post your comment there?

Was the deletion of octave_kbf.pap required for solving the issue or was it sufficient to remove qt-settings?

Ron - this is a completely unrelated old bug report to your symptoms, you should probably find a more recent related bug report or file a new one.

This "GUI Crash on Startup" still happened on my Windows 10 with GNU Octave GUI 4.2.1.   I was able to work around it by deleting two of Octave's temp files (but not the folders):
C:\Users\username\.config\octave\qt-settings
C:\Users\username\.config\4.2.1\qsci\octave_kbf.pap.

Note: “username” was my real user name in the above file paths.

What had led up to the GUI crash on startup always occurring was the the Window was docked way to the right of my 2nd monitor with my desktop across 2 monitors.  I set some breakpoints and had trouble clearing them so I exited Octave in when the script was paused.  After that I was unable to reopen the GUI without it crashing.

I'm closing this report since we can't fix problems with "GUI Octave" since that's a separate project, not part of Octave itself.

I guess you are using GUI Octave which is not maintained or supported by the Octave developers. Please try out the experimental GUI of Version 3.8.0 or 3.8.1

Thank you for your bug report. Does Octave 3.6.4 crash without using GUI Octave or is this bug report only related to running GUI Octave?

I have Octave 3.6.4 installed (in C:\Program Files\Octave-3.6.4\), and I also got GUI Octave. When I started it, I pointed GUI Octave at the CLI-Octave, at which point GUI Octave prints out in the Octave introduction and the prompt, and then promptly (pun not intended) crashes. A screenshot shows what it looks like at this point. Also, I now cannot even point GUI Octave anywhere else, since when I start the GUI, it immediately loads the intro and prompt, and then crashes. Every. Single. Time. Very annoying. Hope someone can help! (I need this to do homeowork)
