Also, if you try to zoom on one of those points it gets really bad.

Last thought is that the maximum of the data (7.4e5) is very far below "flintmax ('single')" which is 1.67e7.

This is definitely related to the size of the x-data.  If I normalize the x-data it runs from 1:7 and using those values the markers are situated correctly

The following code produces markers ('+') which are not aligned with the tick marks on the x-axis.
