> I always found gnuplot has more capability (e.g., the ruler, something I frequently need), runs faster when selecting regions and zooming, especially when there are many data points (e.g., 10000), and have been using it forever, including as part of Octave (another software I use constantly). It is a great piece of software.  I have even used it as a plotting engine in some C++ and Fortran code!  Worked great.  Now it has a ruler and "grid minor" bug.  Also the "grid on" produces a heavy black line grid rather than a grey or dotted fine grid.

good question, I have just realized to had set it long time ago in .octaverc but I don't remember the reason, probably for some other bug :-)

I can confirm the issue with both gnuplot's qt and wxt backends on linux. "grid on" correctly turns the grid on but "grid minor on" has no effect at all.

Out of curiosity, why do you prefer using the gnuplot toolkit? There is currently not much effort put in this toolkit and your best bet is to use the actively developed qt toolkit.

The problem is still confirmed on latest 6.1.0, any plan to solve it? This problem is quite annoying because on Windows looks go with qt backend

If I try enabling the minor grid lines using the gnuplot backend they are not showed.

Here is the simple test code:

plot(1:5,1:5,'*')
grid minor on

The same code works correctly with fltk or qt backends
