Those are the best bugs. Only difference is "Match words in document". But it does not have any effect. With the settings below it does not work. Anyway i believe you. I was already wondering why nobody complaints about ...

Here is another procedure that causes a problem:
1.) open two files: file1.m and after this file2.m
2.) close file2.m (it is important to close file2 as it has focus) by clicking the "X" in the tab with the mouse.
=> file2 is closed but cursor vanishes and i can't type anything into file1.m (i.e. the keyboard does not work at all). Even if i click into the editor with the mouse.

I see many Qt deprecated warnings. Is it worth to check those? Any specific files?

I have the same settings as Torsten, and I'm also unable to reproduce this, Ctrl+s works fine in all steps of auto-completion. Octave version 6.0.1 (rev 648202bebcb0), built with Qt 5.12.5 and QScintilla 2.11.2.

Hg200, thanks for further digging into this. I have the related option enabled and actually, when following your procedure from comment #2 I can successfully save the file with Ctrl-S in all three phases.

Please find attached my complete preferences for autocompletion, are there any differences to yours?

yep - looks like the problem does not occur when "show completion list automatically" is disabled. have you tested with this option "enabled" or "disabled"?

I have found something helpful! I have attached a screenshot showing the procedure:

1.) Open a random file and start typing "c": In this stage <ctrl-s> will save the file and the green "save icon" in the tab (showing the file name) will disappear (file is saved / ctrl-s command works)
2.) Type "cu": A command completion popup appears. <ctrl-s> will not save the file while the completion popup is shown. The saved-icon does not disapear. Looks okay to me so far.
3.) Type "cus": The completion popup disappears when "s" is pressed. In this stage I can continue writing. But <ctrl-s> will not save the file any more until i do a mouse click somewhere into the editor

Answers - I hope i understood your questions correctly:

@ 1.) Just leaving is not harmful
@ 2.) Yes, the window has focus all the time
@ 3.) If i click in the menu bar the ctrl-cmds will "recover". Therefore I guess this info is not helpful. But yes the menu shows ctrl shortcuts
@ 4.) Same here: If i mouseclick somewhere else everything "recovers" immediatetly

I can not reproduce this here (Debian 10 with Gnome, same hg_id).

Some question for getting a better understanding what is going on:

  1. Are you typing all the time into the editor or does this happen when you leave octave alone?
  2. Does the editor has focus all the time
  3. Are the shortcuts in the menu still shwo "Ctrl-..." when the shortcuts actually doesn't work?
  4. Are the shortcuts which include "Ctrl" still work in other widgets except the editor?

I am testing on stable branch. Qt Gui Editor.

i.) Suddenly (perhaps after 30 seconds of typing) the shortcuts <ctrl>-c, <ctrl>-v <ctrl>-z,<ctrl>-s (copy, paste, undo and save) stop working (i.e. the command is not done). It feels like when typing in the editor and the ctrl-key becomes suddenly "blocked". But that isn't a keyboard damage because other editors (e.g. gedit) are fine with the same shortcuts.
ii.) Other keys seem to be not affected (i.e. i can still continue writing while the <ctrl> action is blocked).
iii.) When this happens and when i click with the mouse somewhere into the editor, or if i click with the mouse into the menu bar then the ctrl-shortcuts start working again until they become blocked again after a while.
iv.) This is a problem i encountered already a month or so ago on the default branch.
v.) Fedora 31 system with Qt 5.13.

I tried to figure out when this is exactly happening but haven't found a scheme (sorry). Erasing the ini file from .config/octave does not help.
