This one-liner http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/20a9b99d515c fixes it on my windows vm.

Maybe related, I noticed that the previous floating geometry of the command widget is not always restored while undocking it.

Yes, after a restart the undocked command window is fully functional and nicely at the previous (undocked) location and with the size it had before restarting Octave.
It is really the closing/re-showing action that is buggy. Should provide ample clues to hunt this down I guess :-)

Thanks for the report. After a restart, the command window is visible and has a reasonable size? Does it has the size it should have, i.e. the one before closing it or another size?

Confirmed on Windows 7, also on dev version.

I use the command and and editor windows undocked from the main Octave main window.

If I close the command window and then use the main window's Window menu item Show Command Window to reopen the command window, I end up with a very small floating command window. This window is too small to show any text etc. Also, this window is not able to be resized with the mouse or by any other means I can see.

To rectify I have to restart Octave.
