Andrew, thanks for the rpeort.

Actually, there already is a request for arbitrarily arranging file views in the editor (bug #53712). Therefore, I am closing this report as duplicate.

Regarding the behavior when dragging the tabs with the mouse ti seems that the mac onyl uses as much space as is required for the tabs. On my Gnome window manager the labs, which are left alinged, can be dragged over the whole editor width. Have you other qt applications where you can test the drag-tab behavior?

In the Qt GUI, the Editor is a tabbed pane view (or whatever you call it in Qt). It would be nice if the Editor supported a split-pane or multi-tabbed-pane view, so you could view two or three files side by side. In my experience, this is a common use case in larger code bases, where you have to simultaneously modify two or more files which interact with each other, or if you want to compare "before" and "after" versions of a function/class rewrite.

The current tab-drag behavior for the editor is a little weird. (See attached GIF.)
