It turns out that this is not that easy to fix. The fonts in the dropdown list of a font combobox seem to ignore stylesheets  When looking at other applications that uses font selection box with a preview of the font (e.g., LibreOffice), the size is also larger than the general font size of the application, at least for some of the listed fonts.

It's a little large, but I think we're down to aesthetics.  I was comparing to the suggested 20 points and it is no where near as big as that.  See the attached screenshot for a true 20 point font.

I'm dropping this down to a Feature Request.  I'm not sure why the drop-down dialog isn't just using the fontsize that the rest of the GUI is through an inheritance mechanism.  My guess is that this is easy to fix for someone who understands Qt code.

The code to modify is in libgui/src/settings-dialog.cc.  I think the function will be settings_dialog::read_lexer_settings.

It kind of looks large on my computer (attached).

I'm using the 5.0.1 stable branch and this works for me.  This is on Linux however.  Can you re-test with the stable branch or with the RC1 candidate?

Minor GUI issue:

In Preferences > Editor Styles > Octave, the dropdowns for font selection display the font names/samples in rather large type, like 20 points. IMHO that affects readability a bit, and you can't fit many fonts into the dropdown's popup.

Could these be shrunk a bit?
