About this bug, I prefer to maintain the -s option, as -g produces a huge *.oct file

The files op*.oct file generated by the octproj package should include the debugging symbols. It should be up to the user or to the maintainer of the distribution where the package will be included to strip those symbols.

This is the case, for instance, in the Debian distribution. The regular Debian package octave-octproj includes the stripped version of the oc*.oct files, while the octave-octproj-dgbsym package includes the non stripped version.

The patch attached to this bug report (which essentially replaces the "-s" option by the "-g" option to mkoctfile) fixes the problem.
