Okay, this is showing up a race condition between the GUI thread and the main Octave computational thread. We know about the issue and have been working to devise the best solution for a while now.

Ah!, Didn't think of that.

Consistently works with cut/paste.

Consistently DOES NOT from m-file (Blank)

Baffled. My solution this far is to partially construct the menu's, set MenuBar to None, and continue building the menu structure (several levels).

Are you executing the script from an m-file or using cut/paste?
