@Torsten: confirmed. I can resize the widget, although I cannot move it anywhere from its initial placement.

Changeset http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/c9aab297130e should at least enable resizing of floating widgets under KDE with Oxygen.

@Torsten: Thanks for looking in to this so carefully. Indeed, I am using the Oxygen widgets. I never thought that would be a problem.

I finally managed to setup a vbox with Kubuntu (KDE Plasma 5.5.5) and can confirm the issue for the widget style "oxygen". All other widget styles works fine, except for the "&" somewhere in the title string of floating widgets.

The window is a bit bigger and a bit better positioned, but I still can't interact with it to move it or resize it. It is still fixed at the location where it was created. The new entry in qt-settings that is created is:

What happens if you delete the entry with the floating geometry?

In ~/.config/octave/qt-settings I have

Thanks for testing. What about the entries <dockwidgetname>_floating_geometry in your settings file? Do they exist and what geometries are stored?

I tried the patch, but alas, it doesn't change things for me. Isn't there some other magic KDE global variable for getting floating objects to work?

I have attached a patch that might add a title bar in KDE (I have no system for testing). It is essentially the same approach as tested in bug #44692 with the small but significant change that the flag Qt::CustomizeWindowHint was missing previously. It is required for being able to manually add decorations via Qt::WindowTitleHint etc.

There is a reasonable default size for a floating widget if no previous size is found in the settings file. Are you seeing entries like <dockwidgetname>_floating_geometry in your settings file? What is their value and what happens if you remove them?

The missing title bar of a floating dock widget under KDE is already discussed in bug #44692 without a solution. Still, the window should be movable and resizable.

The widget is reactive, just small. I can click on hyperlinks in the documentation or use the search feature. However, there is no title bar or other window decorations. The dock/undock button is still present, but it was always inside the window anyways.

When undocking a widget for the first time after the concerning changeset, the floating widgets are located at the top left corner and have very small sizes, since the last floating geometry does not yet exist in the settings file (I will have a look if a default value can be given in this case).

Is the widget just non-reactive or are the related elements (close-, redock-button, title bar etc.) missing?

I compiled with Qt5. As the fix for bug #52378 suggests, I can't drag the widget out of the main window to make it undocked; I have to use the undock button specifically. But that doesn't bother me. It's the not being able to do anything with the window that is bothersome.

This might be related to the fix of bug #52378, changeset
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/a17862b28f0d
Have you compiled Octave with Qt4 or Qt5?

Undocking a window, such as the documentation, puts it in the upper left corner of the screen and the window itself is pretty small. After that, I can't interact with the window to move it, resize it, etc.

This is with KDE and hg id 24499:941ea3da921f (1/3/2018).
