Pantxo,
Thanks for that. I thought that I looked through the
properties pretty carefully (and some years ago I worked
on this part of the system) but...
My other "apparent" bold was just a dumb mistake that I
made quite a long time ago. Code was misplaced so it got
repeated 3 times.

In case you are interested, I recently found "pdcrop" which
shrinks the Bounding Box. This helps in making it much
easier to place PDF plots in TeX/LaTeX. But you might want
to know that to make it work reliably in a script it is
necessary to close() the plot before pdfcrop. Otherwise
randomly the crop runs before the print has written the
PDF. It might be a good idea to make print synchronous.
Not quite like close(), but complete writing the PDF before
returning. And, by the way, pdfcrop is a perl script and part
of the LaTeX Project so it can be used/adapted as needed.

Anyhow, thanks,
Michael

Yes see the axes "titlefontweight" property which is "bold" by default.

Closing report as invalid.

Correction. The tic values were not really bold. I was
accidentally writing them 3 times. But, the title()
still comes out bold. However, I notice that the "demo subplot"
does the same thing. It appears that the title() is
unconditionally bold. Is this intentional?

I have tried a few tests of axes settings as part of moving to qt.
Here are a few observations: These are for a subplot of
2 rows and 3 columns.

1. the setting: set (gca (), "Fontweight", "bold"),
turns on bold for the x and y axis labels and tic values
for all subplots, or selected rows.

2. But, setting: set (gca (), "Fontweight", "normal"),
for rows 1 and 2, or not including a "Fontweight" call
results in the tic values for the first row and the
title for the first row (centered on column  2) being in BOLD.

I could not locate where the bold setting was actually turned on.
This apparently is not set in print.m or gca.m or anywhere
else in scripts/plot.
