Is this still an issue with the current stable release of 4.2.1? Octave is getting ready to make another bug fix release of 4.2.2 and it would be good to know if this has been resolved.

OS environment: Windows 7 / Cygwin/X

Problem:

1) Cygwin/X enviroment: start octave from command line in XTerm with "octave" + enter

2) dialog "You seem to use Octave for the first time" shows up

3) click "next", "next" and "finish" buttons

4) Octave crashes, exits with signal 11

Workaround:

Manually create "octave" directory in ~/.config directory with "mkdir octave" + enter

=> Problem solved, octave starts up normally
