Thanx Mike for your response. It all worked out eventually and I'm about to finish my thesis.
I guess the company did install the 4.2.1 version which ended up working fine.

So my problem no longer needs to be solved.

Thanks for your bug report, and sorry no one has responded until now. Is this bug still reproducible using the latest Octave 4.2.1 build for Windows? If you give Octave more time to start, does it resume working? Do you have to run any commands in order to trigger this bug, or is just starting Octave from the launcher enough?

For my thesis I would like to work with Octave. However, it takes minutes before the program starts and 9/10 times after starting it crashes (not responding). Making it very impossible to work with it.

Furthermore, I am not a Matlab user which makes it pretty hard to understand how to install packages (I am familiar with R and Python though). Is there any chance you have a (very) simple instruction manual somewhere online?

Best, Marjolein (Tilburg, Netherlands)
