Closing report as this now seems to work okay for everyone.

Works for me as well with
octave:4> _opengl_info_
   version: 3.0 Mesa 17.3.5
    vendor: Intel Open Source Technology Center
  renderer: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Haswell Desktop

The original test case works for me with both fltk and qt on a system with intel graphics:

octave:1> __opengl_info__
   version: 3.0 Mesa 17.3.3
    vendor: Intel Open Source Technology Center
  renderer: Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD Graphics 400 (Braswell)

It works on computers with amd graphics. It would take me some time (few hours) before I can check this on intel graphics.

This works for me now too (Qt 5.6).  Dmitri?  If it works for you then we can close this.

I can't reproduce this bug anymore. Since the last time I checked, I switched to building Octave with Qt 5.7 and thud QOpenGLWidget. Could some of you check?

Re-titling the report to mention that this is only a problem with Qt.  I can also confirm that it crashes my system as well.

end of previous comment:

figure ("position", [0 0 10000 5000])
get (1, "position")
#->ans = 2     24   1306    652
figure ('position',[0,0,10000,10000])
# intel_do_flush_locked failed: No space left on device

After the crash the calling terminal (in --no-gui mode only) is left messed up
and unusable.

This looks like an openGL driver specific issue (I have nouveau MESA driver
and intel graphics chipset) that is triggered for large requested window size
... but that fltk doesn't trigger.

Actually Qt also rescales the window to fit into the screen at small enough width/height. Don't know where the threshold is:

figure ("position", [0 0 10000 5000])
get (1, "position")
#->ans = 2     24   1306    652
figure ('position',[0,0,10000,10000])
# intel_do_flush_locked failed: No space left on device

Hi,

I can confirm the bug with qt toolkit only. With fltk the figure takes all available screen splace and the "position" property is set accordingly:

graphics_toolkit fltk
figure ('position',[0,0,10000,10000])
get (1, "position")
# ->ans =   2     24   1307    694

The above behavior looks appropriate to me and we could implement it in qt.

octave:1> h  = figure(1)
h =  1
octave:2> set(h,'Position',[0,0,10000,10000])
octave:3> intel_do_flush_locked failed: No space left on device
panic: Segmentation fault -- stopping myself...
attempting to save variables to ' '...
save to ' ' complete
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

i7 intel graphics controller

No crash on AMD graphics. The figure screen becomes full-screen and completely un-usable even after i reset the 'Position' to
a more reasonable size.
