Or, since you say the crash occurs for FLTK, use the octave-cli program since it is single-threaded and simpler to run under gdb.

gdb --args octave-cli ...

FWIW I do not see a crash when panning or saving FLTK plots.

Since the gui is started in a two step process so that the GUI is running in a process with no controlling tty, you can't just do

gbd octave

What I usually do is issue the following command at the Octave prompt to start gdb in a separate terminal and attach it to an already running Octave GUI process:

system (sprintf ("gnome-terminal --command 'gdb -p %d'", getpid ()), "async");

Substitute the gnome-terminal command for your favorite terminal window program.  Once gdb starts and gives you the "(gdb) " prompt, type "continue" to allow Octave to run again.

You can find this command and some more information here:  http://wiki.octave.org/Debugging_Octave

When interacting with FLTK plots (using the move tool on the plot), saving plots, drawing text on plots I keep getting a segfault from octave. This is happening for both --force-gui and --no-gui modes. I'm currently running on Arch Linux. How do I go about running octave in GDB to generate a backtrace?
