If you mean by "diff patch" the changeset mentioned in comment #1, then this patch is already included in version 4.0.0.

What operating system are you using and which foreground color is selected for the "default" text style in the preferences?

I upgraded to Octave 4.0 and found a problem which I think is the same as this one.

My cursor color is white, i.e. very close to the background color.

I was able to get around it by highlighting the selected row, in a comfortable tone that contrasts the other color: light blue for example.

Still, I wanted to report it for two reasons:
- To let you know about it, in case it happens to more people.
- Since I saw there's a diff patch for this and I don't know how to apply those myself.  I'd like to ask for some guidance on applying the fix in case it's the same issue.

Thank you.

Thank you for the report. I have pushed changeset
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/e85203f41402
where the cursor's and indentation guide's colors are set to the foreground color of the default style.

When modifying the editing styles, there is no way to change the cursor color for the editor window. Changing the editor's default Octave background color to black hides the cursor entirely in Octave files, regardless of default Octave foreground color. Please add the option to change the cursor color for the editor window.

Note that this does not exist in all windows - there is already an option for changing the cursor color in the command window, and it functions quite nicely.
