Fixed with changeset

in gui-release.

A blank script is created each time the editor becomes visible without open files.

Up to you guys to resolve. I personally don't have an opinion which way is best or whether it should be configurable or not. I guess most text editors will open a blank document if they weren't explicitly told to open a file.

Should this be the default behavor or a preference?

Yes, based on your clarification I think this is different from bug #40551.

This bug is requesting for the GUI editor to have an empty document always open ready to type in unless there are existing files already opened in the editor from a previous session.

can we keep this separate from bug #40551?

from bug #40551:

So I think what you're asking for when you say "blank script by default" is you want the editor to have an unnamed document ready to start typing in, is that right? Currently if there are no files open the editor has a grayish background and the user has to click on the New button to create a new file and then begin editing.

it'd always be available upon startup, unless the preference
"Restore editor tabs from previous session on startup"
is set and indeed there was at least one tab left open from the previous session.

I've marked this as a duplicate of 40551.  I think that is the right place to deal with this.

Perhaps this would really be part of this?:

What would a blank script template look like though?  A script really is whatever the user wants to put there.  A function has a more defined shape and so we offer a template for that.

currently the default requires the user to create a new script to only then start typigin
