It works really nicely now. I'm going to close the report .

I was going to add anyway, however since I had finished the code for the doc function, I would let everyone take a look at that first.

I will push a change to show the window in a few minutes.

I agree with Rik's focus switch. Compare with the current behavior of the GUI with "edit newfunc.m". Both are user-initiated actions that effective change focus in the command-line interface, so I don't think it's disruptive to switch focus in the GUI.

Awesome. I pushed your changeset (http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/359c5ca795cd) after removing a few '^M' characters at the end of some lines. I gather you were working in a mixed UNIX/DOS environment.

Since I don't do GUI code that much, what is the consensus about changing the window focus? The doc command now opens up a tab in the Documentation Window. But the focus still remains in the Command Window so it appears as if the command did nothing until you switch to the Documentation Window.

Currently typing something like 'doc ls' opens a text info browser within the command window of the GUI. It would be nice if instead this could be hooked to the built-in HTML documentation browser pane.
