With a recent Octave tip (incl. matrix editor patch and Torsten's patch for bug #38785 / comment 12), built for Windows using MXE:

- Works OK on Win7 64-bit.

- On WinXP I see that initially there's no cursor but the terminal does accept commands. Only after clicking in another pane and again clicking in the terminal the cursor appears.

Well that's better than the initial behavior I reported :-) (which must be valid for the 3.7.5 snapshot on alpha.gnu.org)

I don't see that happening on mine.

On running octave, it automatically gives the command window focus and I can type into it.

The prompt displays as <-[K>> for the first time, which I guess is a ctrl code that the windows terminal isn't decoding correctly.
Pressing enter and the prompt is displayed correctly.

I do see some issues with editing in the terminal window:
if I type something, left cursor arrow a couple of characters and try to delete the next character, the line doesn't display with the deleted character remove (refresh problem with the line?)
If I press  enter, the command I typed in is correct.

Immediately after starting an MXE-built Octave (GUI), clicking in the command window doesn't allow entering any command. The cursor indicates that the command window has no "focus".

I first have to click in e.g., the history pane, then in the command window, and from then on can I enter commands (and the cursor starts blinking).

This behavior started a few weeks ago, initially I paid little attention but it turned out to be consistent.
