Thanks for your report. This is a duplicate of bug #38392, which has been fixed on the development version of Octave. See the following search for the changes that were made to the manual:


The next major release of Octave will contain these fixes to the documentation sources.

the documentation cannot be processed successfully with texinfo 5.1. I am attaching a patch that makes it work. a couple of warnings are still there, but I'll leave that up to you.
