This one is reported to be working on Linux, so I'm closing

I pushed a change that works for the few tests I did.

http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/88616c872933

I tested this using subplots.  The currentaxes followed mouse clicks across different axes and across different figures.

I may have missed something, so more tests would be appreciated.

Changing the summary.  The problem looks to be that the current axes is not updated by a mouse click.

Something equivalent to a private "buttondownfcn" is needed (?).

The problem is that the figure's currentaxes property isn't being updated

+verbatim_
demo subplot 1
hax = findall (gcf, "type", "axes");
-verbatim-

"grid on" and "grid off" or clicking on "G" behave the same, and only effects subplot(3,1,1).

After switching to subplot(3,3,9)

axes (hax(1))

"grid on" and "grid off" or clicking on "G" behave the same, and only effects subplot(3,3,9).

The problem seems to be that the fltk backend isn't updating the gca when the axes or it children are selected. On MacOS X the pan functionality works for all axes by default. I haven't looked but my guess is that this bug is easy to fix.

Confirmed on a recent tip (eeff2d0a275d) on 2/26/12.  I've re-title the report for clarity.

To see this, run the following commands, zoom in with the scroll function of the mouse on the top plot, then press the A button in the plot window.

graphics_toolkit ('fltk')
subplot(2,1,1)
plot(1:10)
subplot(2,1,2)
plot(1:20)
