The quotation you show was correct at one time, but there is currently no direct funding for Octave's development.  It seems everyone wants something but is not interested in volunteering to do the work, or to pay for someone else's time.  So I'm closing this report since it is not a bug, or really a feature of Octave.  It seems to me you are asking for free support.

"Nearly all of Octave's development has been paid for using unrestricted funding from various sources"...

Don't tell me it's only to serve the *nix community.

Besides, if you want that each windows user will start compiling octave for himself, then please be so nice and provide some clear and complete instructions that would be understandable not only to programmers, but to "laymen". Including were to place everything, how to compile the dependencies and how to make octave know where to look for them and so on. A terrific example - http://wiki.octave.org/wiki.pl?OctaveForMac

While it also takes time and effort, if done right - it's a one-time effort. You'll only need to update the list of dependencies for each release (if there are changes).

That would be much closer to the view "don't give the starving a fish - teach him fishing"...

It's a lot of trouble to build Octave and all its dependencies on Windows systems.  Most of the problem is actually building the dependencies.

Octave doesn't include dependencies with its source because they are separate packages.  Should we also include the compiler, and the rest of the operating system?  They are also dependencies required for compiling.

Since it is a lot of work to build Octave on Windows, would you pay for a binary installer if one were available?  If so, how much would you consider a reasonable charge to save you the hassle of having to do it yourself?

I would if I have had the slightest idea in this 'compilation'. I've seen posts when people compiled the RC - a few of them compiled on windows. Is it so time consuming to compile also the release when everything is already set up? Do you think that walking me through this would take someone less time than just doing it himself?

I've tried to compile already. Failed miserably due to the lack of dependencies like pcr-something. Now I even tried to compile that pcr-something, but that also failed for some other reason (something else is missing). BTW, I do not understand why the release source does not contain all the dependencies it needs to compile?

We need more people helping with the Windows compilation and distribution. Can you volunteer?

Hi,

any chance of updating the octave for windows from 3.2.4 to 3.4.3?
