I ran several tests and did not encounter a problem.

I tried ...

for n = 1:100
line([-18,18],[0,0])
end

Next, I placed the line command in a m-file script and called the script in the same manner (100 times)

Finally, I placed the line command in a m-file function and called the function in the same manner (100 times)

NO. Hold on , there is a problem here. When this line is in a .m file that is called in a loop it comes back.

I'll try to pin down what is happening and provide more info.

I do beg your pardon.

I quit octave and retried. Now works as documented.

I would guess that I had mistyped something and inadvertently redefined line as a variable.

Sorry for not checking.

Please close as invalid.

I don't see an error with

line([-18,18],[0,0])

in 3.4.2 or the current development sources.  I also can't reproduce the problem with 3.4.0 or any other version I tried (3.2.4, 3.3.54, 3.3.55, 3.4.1).  Are you really using 3.4.0?

line([-18,18],[0,0])
error: horizontal dimensions mismatch (1x1 vs 2x1) near line 523, column 38
error: called from:........

 -- Function File:  line (X, Y, Z, PROPERTY, VALUE, ...)
Create line object from X and Y and insert in current axes object.
Return a handle (or vector of handles) to the line objects created.

Multiple property-value pairs may be specified for the line, but
     they must appear in pairs.

So what is X and Y here. Letters are little help without an explanation.

As a general point the poor doc is a constant barrier to effective use of octave.
