... other flatpak-apps can write and read from disk as expected

It's not possible to read or write from/to disk.
The default directory displayed on opening the save (or the open-) dialogue is empty but for the file pspp.jnl. This file can NOT be found by find in any location on the system.

No error messages in output-window when saving actual data (SAVE OUTFILE="/home/johnny/data_from_pspp.sav".)
No error messages if a folder is created in the ghost-directory
By entering paths in the file-name-field of the save-dialogue one can see that reading of the directory is possible (because existing folders are displayed, eg./var/ results in cache/ config/ data/ ...)

Might be an issue due to GTK/Plasma ...

PSPP installed with flatpak via flathub by KDE-own appstore "Discover" (and I tried on commandline ... no difference)
