I can still reproduce this problem in official 5.1.0
See attached screen shot

Version 4.4.0 is deprecated and no longer supported.  Could someone try with the latest stable release which is 5.1.0.  The problem is likely to have been fixed.

According to bug #53809 (closed as a duplicate) this is still happening on 4.4.0

I don't see it on my 5.0.0 cross builds, but there the width reserved for lines is bigger than what fits in the terminal (my own setting is usually ~90 chars wide) and as a consequence a horizontal scroll bar is always present.

This seems to be Windows specific, and font-size and layout specific as well, is that right?

On my Debian system, if I make the column width of the command window small (less than 80 columns), then I end up with the startup message wrapped, but not truncated.

In Avinoam's screen shot , it looks like lines longer than the command window size are truncated, not wrapped.

Is this still reproducible with the 4.4.0 release?

In the standard GUI layout (as on your screenshot), th effect does not occur. Could you please select a terminal width of 80 characters and try again?

I do not see any problem on Fedora / Gnome.

This still works for me, but I am running KDE which has been different with respect to these issues than either GTK or Windows.

From the hg log, this should have been fixed by cset http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/222addbadf46 from Dec 3rd.

I will have a look at it.

The initial message that is displayed in the Command Window is truncated.  This used to occur, but then was fixed, and now is back again.

The troublesome behavior re-appeared between 11/17/2017 and 1/1/2018.  I am now using hg bisect to try and discover the exact changeset that caused the issue.
