I have just tried this with a Windows XP virtual machine.  The problem is present for the 4.0.0 version of Octave, but not for a development version of Octave (20787:62564952e161).  The problem appears to have been resolved, although it may require building a development version of Octave or waiting for the official 4.2 release.  Closing report.

I am using Windows 7 32 bits.

A simple plot(1:10) will cause Octave to hang and then crash.  Octave runs at 50% CPU during the hang.

I have tried all of the plotting engines: qt, fltk, and gnuplot.

BTW, It worked after installation for a few days.  No packages installed, but then the problem began.  Seems related to the other reported plot crashes.

Thanks for your bug report. Confirmed here in Windows XP as well. Crash occurs with either Qt of FLTK figures but not with Gnuplot.

This may be related to timing in OpenGL rendering, or may be limited to Windows XP only as Avinoam suggests.

I have also seen a lot of crashes in Windows-XP.
In Win7 the code works fine

I tried some of the demos of the plot functions like quiver3, ellipsoid, waterfall and Octave crashed once in a while.

Sadly, I don't know any way how to reproduce the crash. Sometimes Octave crashes on the first try, sometimes after 20 tries, ... Just try some demos over and over and you will definitely trigger a crash.

But this crash isn't related to demos only, try this code

for i = 1:100
   close;
   figure;
   t = 0:0.1:10;
   x = 0.5*t.^2;
   plot(t, x);
   pause(0.15);
end
disp("done");

For me Octave always crashed before the loop terminated. So I guess the bug is related to plotting in general.

My plattfrom is Windows XP, 32 Bit
