Octave 4.0.1 - Win64bit (Win10)

I had the same problem - an error window (from windows) pops up telling me that 'gs.exe does not work any more'
In Octave I got an error 'could not open C:\Users\pjoerg\AppData\Local\Temp\gs_xxxxx'

solution: like in the original post here (Mikael Kurula):
I downloaded gs from ghostscript homepage (win64 bit) and installed it.
I renamed gswin64c.exe in the downloaded gs binary to 'gs.exe'
and copy/replace it to Octave bin (C:\Octave\Octave-4.0.1\bin)

Now I works ;-)

The bug has been fixed by changing ghostscript version to
9.15, to solve bug 44186 (changeset http://hg.octave.org/mxe-octave/rev/1a2fec9962a7)

What is your version of ghostscript? Just type "gs" at a shell prompt and the info should be displayed.

The commands

create a never ending PDF file (I have stpped Octave after a few
GBs).

Could you please attach an example PostScript file that leads to ghostscript filling the disk? I assume the PostScript file (input to ghostscript) is reasonably small.

In Windows 7, using Octave 3.8.2, when I use the print command to print to a pdf, the resulting pdf file keeps growing until it fills the disk.

Then I installed Ghostscript from here:
http://downloads.ghostscript.com/public/gs915w64.exe
I took the gs binary, renamed it to gs.exe and put this one in place of gs.exe in the Octave bin folder. This now produces correct pdf output.

The command I use to print a plot to pdf is:
print -dpdf -color "-S400,300" nmd4-pred.pdf
