Hi, bpj

If it's only for yourself, no problem ...  do anything you like.

As to distributing PDFs made with the font ... to be honest, this question is under discussion with FSF people right now.  If you can wait a while, we'll have that clarified.  I'm sorry I can't be more helpful than that.  I have been pushing to make the answer be effortlessly: yes.  But I'm told it isn't there yet.

If you're going to distribute modified copies of the font, please don't distribute your product as GNU FreeFont.  Any name you like -- just make it obviously distinct from our product -- and follow the usual GPL rules.  It would be nice of you to credit the GNU FreeFont project as the origin of your product.

I would just add a notice like "additional material copyright <year> <your-name>" to the existing copyright notice in the font.

I would like to build from the dev version since I need some characters which are in the dev version but not yet in the released version. In fact I would also need to to the best of my ability add a pair of characters (U+A7B3 and U+AB53) which are not yet in the dev version;more specifically I would like to add versions of these similar to Greek lowercase chi as seen on page 218 of <https://archive.org/details/cu31924026453708>rather than the versions more similar to Latin X seen in <https://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/UA720.pdf>, so the version I need is likely to be useful only to myself.I wonder what I need to do to legally use such a modified version in PDF documents publicized on the Internet. How should I name the derivative font, how should I modify the metadata of the font, in particular the copyright notice, and so on?

TIA,

/bpj
