Hi,

Scaling a font isn't particularly hard.  This is one of the things FontForge can help you with.  The FontForge manual is your ticket.

Don't worry I'm not going to distribute the font.   Its a prototype font to support my personal research.   If my work ever sees the light of day I shall have a professional font designer make a specific font for this project.   What I need now is just something that I can work with until that day.

I know nothing about scaling fonts.   Can you point me in the direction of a site that tells me how to do it, ideally using FontForge or TypeLite?   Thanks.

Hi Connor!

First, I have to get this out of the way: if you intend to distribute your font that includes part of GNU FreeFont, it must itself be GPL-licensed, etc.

My guess would be that the EM sizes are different.
Compare the values Ascent, Descent and EM size in
    Font Info -> General

To "merge" fonts of different EM sizes, you're going to have to scale something.

Cheers!

I'm creating a prototype font, and have a base font that contains the extra symbols that I need (lots of them).   I wanted to merge in FreeSans to provide the letters, numerals and symbols.   I used FontForge to combine earlier fonts to create my base font without difficulty.   When I tried to merge in FreeSans all the imported glyphs were too small.   When the combined font was tried in OpenOffice they were too small there too.

Given that FontForge worked with the other ttf fonts without a problem, there must be something different about FreeSans.ttf.

Any idea what?

Connor.
