The GNU Hurd is the GNU project's replacement for the Unix kernel.

The Hurd is a collection of servers that run on the Mach microkernel to implement file systems, network protocols, file access control, and other features of Unix kernels like Linux.

The program in hurd/utils/rpctrace.c is the starting point for a very useful debugging tool for the Hurd. The mechanics of the program are there, but it needs a lot of work to make the output formatting more readable by humans and more informative in general.

Interested people should just get started right away by getting their Hurd system working, and compiling their own rpctrace from the source. Then start understanding what the output is and make some simple changes to make it easier to read. When you've gotten that far, post your work and your ideas about what the output should look like to be most helpful.
