The GNU Hurd - News

The GNU Hurd wiki was completely merged into its main homepage: http://hurd.gnu.org/.
However, editing pages is still encouraged and open for everyone, and the former wiki engine now serves as staging area for changing the official pages: http://www.bddebian.com:8888/~hurd-web/.
Have fun with the Hurd!

The first steps for the Hurd to run on L4 have been done. A new CVS module "hurd-l4" has been created that holds the source code that is in somewhat releasable form. So far this is the libl4 user space library for the L4 kernel and laden, the bootloader.
The next steps will be to write down the design for the user space capability system and implement some initial servers to get started.

There's a new version of mig available, with a new option intended to help
generate configuration files that rpctrace may soon be enhanced to use.
See http://mail.gnu.org/pipermail/bug-hurd/2001-June/004428.html in the list archives,
and the NEWS file (http://savannah.gnu.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs/hurd/mig/NEWS).
As yet, the changes are only in cvs and not yet in new tar files or debian packages.

We are trying to make use of http://savannah.gnu.org/ as it continues to develop, and hopefully make it easier for volunteers doing Hurd hacking to coordinate their work. We're beginning to get all the hurd mailing lists shown on http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/hurd/ and we are starting to use some of the other Savannah facilities in hopes of keeping everybody well-informed and making it easier to learn about the Hurd and get started as a contributor.
