No response to request for further testing, closing as working assuming that the 'ignore_function_time_stamp' flag is working as intended and documented.

Can you try again after running the command

ignore_function_time_stamp none

when Octave first starts?

Your example depends on modifying system function files that come with Octave. Octave's default behavior is to ignore changes in the time stamp on its system functions, assuming that the user will not be modifying them while Octave is running.

If you try your example on a function in a different directory, you should not see this behavior. And setting the 'ignore_function_time_stamp' property allows it to apply to system functions too.

As mentioned in another bug submission, the IDE not processing a changed file, unless Octave is restarted.

The rundemos.m file in the testfun directory had the line

 input ("Press <enter> to continue: ", "s");

changed to

 input ("Press <backspace> to continue: ", "s");

and continued to use the original prompt, irrespectve of trying everything. The only thing that worked was exiting, and restarting Octave.

And more bad news: repeated running gave inconsistent behaviour:

C:\Apps\OCTAVE~1.0\mingw64\share\octave\5.1.0\m\audio\@audiorecorder\audiorecorder.m example 1:
 recorder = audiorecorder (44100, 16, 2);
 record (recorder, 1);
 pause (2);
 player1 = audioplayer (recorder);
 player2 = getplayer (recorder);
 play (player1);
 pause (2);
 play (player2);
 pause (2);
 stop (player1);
 stop (player2);

C:\Apps\OCTAVE~1.0\mingw64\share\octave\5.1.0\m\audio\@audiorecorder\audiorecorder.m example 1: failed

Invalid call to audioplayer.  Correct usage is:

 -- PLAYER = audioplayer (Y, FS)
 -- PLAYER = audioplayer (Y, FS, NBITS)
 -- PLAYER = audioplayer (Y, FS, NBITS, ID)
 -- PLAYER = audioplayer (RECORDER)
 -- PLAYER = audioplayer (RECORDER, ID)
