It looks good. It even looks okay with Uniscribe.

I don't think these symbols were very well thought out, from the point of view of implementation. Before I said I had assumed U+1D19D was the connector and U+1D19C an end piece, and I made them space accordingly. But in the examples, U+1D19C is the main connector, but the end fourishes U+1D19E etc. come after U+1D19D! So both U+1D19D and U+1D19E act as connectors. And the vertical bar can't work as a spacing letter as depicted -- some other technology has to account for its width. I used kerning because it was already there and easy. (Too bad for current uniscribe.)

Let me know how it looks to you!

It is better, but most of the strokes still do not join each other smoothly.

The latest commits work better with your example.
I see one anomaly with the vertical line, but it seems minor to me.

A simple vertical abutment won't suffice the way the standards table shows it. The characters will either have to overshoot their bounds or be kerned in order to join at a diagonal, as the image seems to indicate.

I thought it should work like this:

data:text/html;charset=utf-8,
%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9C
%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%A0%F0%9D%86%9C
%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9C
%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%A0%F0%9D%86%9C
%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%A3
%F0%9D%86%A1%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9C
%F0%9D%86%A2%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9C
%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9F
%F0%9D%86%A1%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%A0%F0%9D%86%9C
%F0%9D%86%A2%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%A0%F0%9D%86%9C
%F0%9D%86%9B%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9C
%F0%9D%86%9B%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9E
%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9D%F0%9D%86%9E

Hi, yeah, they were never great. I think with the overlap I was trying to get rid of the little white line that appears in screen rendering when characters are abutted.

Your example is taken from the standard Table 21-1. But that table is different from how I understood U+1D19C and U+1D19D. I had taken U+1D19C to be the end-stroke, and U+1D19D to be the connecting stroke. But the way they're used in the table is the other way around, so that the end stroke has an extra connector line. I'll have to think about that.

The Unicode Standard, table 21-1 lists some musical ornaments built from the ornament strokes U+1D19B through U+1D1A5. FreeSerif does not get them all right.

U+1D19C MUSICAL SYMBOL ORNAMENT STROKE-2 has ink to the left of its bounding box. This means that when it is not the first stroke in an ornament, it overlaps the preceding character.

U+1D19C does not perfectly overlap a following U+1D19C or U+1D19D MUSICAL SYMBOL ORNAMENT STROKE-3: there is a visible discontinuity.

There is a discontinuity between U+1D19D and U+1D19E MUSICAL SYMBOL ORNAMENT STROKE-4.

There is a discontinuity between U+1D1A2 MUSICAL SYMBOL ORNAMENT STROKE-8 and U+1D19C. It is quite a small one.

There is a discontinuity between U+1D1A5 MUSICAL SYMBOL ORNAMENT STROKE-11 and U+1D19C.

Most right-joining strokes do not join properly, or at all, with U+1D1A0 MUSICAL SYMBOL ORNAMENT STROKE-6.
