Typo in last comment:

कौं कों
should read
कौं कौं

कों is rendering correctly.

Hi Steve,

Checked with the new version of font snapshot. The listed glyphs work correctly.

But in a couple cases the anusvar is merging with reph on Firefox/Win7.

र्कों
र्कौं

There is one additional combination, that you need to add.
XXX + ौं
example:
कौं कों

I have added it to your test sample.

HTML and display as it is seen in Firefox as pdf are attached.

Hi,

Some things were missing from FreeSerif. I fixed these.
Now in SVN and in the snapshot. (normal face only so far.)

I used your test to make a test of matras combined with other marks. See attached.

Can you suggest other combinations?

Confirmed: the reph is coming before the matra in FreeSerif, and that is wrong.

This has nothing to do with the application. The font tables are wrong. I will get to work on this.

Please let me know if you see anything else!

OK, it isn't what I thought.

I thought you were referring specifically to Sanskrit conjuncts in Excel.

I intended for Hindi should work adequately on any of these systems.
Also, Sanskrit should work in IE 10.

I had tested it in IE 10 not long ago, but I'll look again.

Setting status back to "need info".

The problem is also coming in Microsoft Word and HTML displays in Chrome and Internet Explorer 10. I have not tested on Firefox yet.

The Freeserif rendering is incorrect - for Hindi as well as Sanskrit. I applied lang='sa" at webpage level as well as for the class for freeserif font.

HTML file and pdfs of display in Chrome and Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 7 are attached.

Hi,

I'm afraid this is an Excel limitation, not a bug with GNU FreeFont.

You are comparing specialized Sanskrit fonts with GNU FreeFont, which is a general-purpose Unicode font with the capability to display Sanskrit.

For FreeFont, the application software must tell FreeFont to display Devanagari as Sanskrit, as opposed to Hindi, which is the default. I don't think Excel has any such ability. Firefox, IE, XeLaTeX and LuaTex do have that ability though.

One advantage of this arrangement is that mixed Hindi and Sanskrit (and Marathi and Nepali etc. and even Old Hindi) can all be displayed in the same document with the same font.

glyphs such as र्कौ , र्गौ , र्घौ , र्म्यौ etc are not being rendered correctly.

Attached is a pdf created from an Excel file on Windows7 which shows the chart with Freefont, Sanskrit 2003, Chandas, Sahadeva and Kokila fonts.

The rule should be to apply the r maatraa after au maatraa.
