Having grub2 fall back to looking at the mbr's of the disks installed and perhaps the partitions therein can't be that difficult. All the framework is already there. It would certainly make recovery of a confused system much easier for most users if grub2 behaved this way. Even experienced uses don't drop down to the grub2 command interface very often... |

I can see you are not interested in improving grub2, only defending it. Too bad since it would have been a very nice step up from the behavior of original grub.
