My vim wrapped the line in my /etc/default/grub causing the interactive menu (editing entries while booting, pressing 'e' to edit the line) causing strange behaviour while editing the lines (it doesn't show my cursor or what I write) and caused my pc to stop booting sometimes.

etc/default/grub isn't parsed but sourced into bash script. Hence it has to be a valid bash file. Since it's common way to do things and nobody complains about it in many different projects it's a won'tfix.
