I'll add the missing parttool entries to autogenerated config. They are needed only when having multiple m$ systems but never hurts

Was reporting this as a courtesy as I worked-around it and don't care that much.  Fine with me if no further action is taken.

One thing I remember now is that the partition was created with 'parted' and Windows 6/7 installed on it in "custom partition" mode with all other partitions marked hidden.  With this approach no recovery partition is created, which might be a factor.  The GRUB2 config included a directive to cause the partition to be marked active whenever booting and all other NTFS partitions are marked hidden.

When I say that BCDEDIT did not recognize it's repository, that means that no matter what command is issued it returns an error.  Don't recall the exact text.ons are marked hidden.

I tried with the windows I have. It behaved like crap^H^H^H^H, the way it should, was unable to establish wireless connection even  though it saw the network and had the key (probably some kind of problem with lenovo connection manager), has written "Test mode" in left right corner ("anti-piracy", oh boy, annoys more legal customers than prevents copies) even though it's activated (as is confirmed in "system" dialog) and completely legal (MSDNAA) but bcdedit worked without problem.
"BCDEDIT tool could not access its repository" contains neither the command you tried nor its result.
http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com/msg2392312.html suggest that what you should do is to launch fdisk and set active flag. Normally though the active flag shouldn't be changed in Ubuntu installer.

Here is someone who appears to have run into a similar issue.

FS corruption unlikely.  Very meticulous when building systems.

You do not appear to have attempted to verify if the problem is reproducible.  While it may be a stupid behavior on the part of Windows, unfortunately Windows is a important target and may deserve a workaround, even an inelegant one.

And what is unclear about "BCDEDIT tool could not access its repository?"

The only related info in MBR is the NTID which was never overwritten by GRUB. Moreover even if it did it would result in:
a) failed boot
b) bcd containing incorrect information but still modifiable.
The problem with bcdedit (you didn't tell which problem exactly) probably has a different origin (like FS corruption) which happened in approximately the same time.
Unless additional info (feel free to supply) suggests otherwise I'm closing this bug report as invalid

Just installed GRUB2 for a multi-disk multi-partition configuration.  Installed GRUB2 after installing a Windows 7 image (W2K8R2 specifically).  After GRUB2 was working, found that Windows BCDEDIT tool could not access its repository even though the directory for it was present on the Win7 partition.  My guess is that GRUB2 overwrote some BCDEDIT related information in the MBR.  GRUB1 does not cause this problem.

Worked around the issue by moving the Windows 5.2 image from another drive to the GRUB2 drive and re-installing Windows 7 on a non-GRUB2 drive.

Otherwise GRUB2 works nicely.  Had to use it because the LSI 2008 SAS controller randomizes which physical drives appear on which drive channels (fortunately drive 0 stays put), so needed label-style boot partition selection.
