We've moved to GRUB 2 as a development platform. Please can you check if this bug still applies there, and if it does, reopen it?

Thanks

I have the same problem.  I took a look at the source and the problem seems pretty clear.

I'm working on a patch now and will post back here in the next couple of days with a fix.

using ubuntu 6.06 w/ default grub 0.97 installation

when there is trailing white-space on the line
default        saved
in menu.lst, the savedefault command has no effect and the default is not updated.

not sure you will call this a bug, but extra white-space is an easy enough mistake to make, the behavior is not expected, and it took a long time to guess the problem.

thanks much,
rob
