I tested at the top level of the volume and the same behavior as in the subdirectory. If I go one tree item higher, I am in a subfolder of my home directory, where the mount points a placed. There it works as intended.

The behavior of the editor is expected. The file is automatically reloaded under the new name. I am just wondering why it does not notify the user that the underlying file has disappeared which is the case when you remove a file that is currently open in the editor.

Regarding the renaming itself, it is carried out by QDir::rename () and consequently, I have no idea what might go wrong here. Have you tried to file somewhere else in the file tree in case QDir had problems correctly building the target path?

And in the editor, the unsaved file has the new name.

I tried mounting the same volume using MacFuse. There the problem does not occur. It seems to be related to the combination Fuse-T and Octave

No, no difference. The file disappears. But if it is opened in the editor it stays in the editor, but it gets marked as an unsaved file. Even when it was saved before.

Tested on 9.1.0 and 9.1.90:

When working on a fuse-T mounted drive and renaming a file in the octave file browser, the file gets deleted. Without any warning or notification. The file is simply gone.
On the Macs internal drive, it works as intended.
