It looks like it takes a restart of Octave for the old shortcut to no longer be active.

A few new observations: in Octave 7.3 on Debian 12 (KDE, Polish keyboard and regional settings) the error does not occur, but in the same version under Windows it does. The CTRL+ALT+C combination also closes the widget, but if I want to enter it manually as a shortcut, it saves in the program as CTRL+ALT+Ć.

Piotr

That also crossed my mind and I think that this is actually not possible since we skipped the initial settings file. Since then, an empty shortcut is interpreted as the default setting (which is also the case for all other preferences). This could be fixed by writing all default shortcuts into the settings file at first startup (or at first use of the preferences dialog) and interpret an empty shortcut as no shortcut (from the time of the first pref dialog on).

IIUC, "ć" is entered with AltGr+C with a Polish programmer keyboard layout:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_QWERTY_keyboard_language_variants#Polish

I can confirm that Ctrl+Alt+C still closes a widget even if I bind a different key combination to "Close Widget" in the preferences (e.g., AltGr+K). I tested on Windows for what it's worth.

Unrelated: Is it possible to unbind any key combination from an action that has a default shortcut?

Thanks for the report. I can not reproduce on my system (Linux, English language, German keyboard) that ALT+C closes a widget. Does CTRL+ALT+C still closes a widget?

When using the shortcut "ALT + C", which is used in Polish to insert the letter "ć", the GUI application incorrectly interprets this as a shortcut to close the widget (the default combination "CTRL + ALT + C"). The error occurs in versions 8.4 and 9.1, but two years ago I had no problem with it.

Best regards
