Actually yes, we definitely have slow downs on this network. Really interesting you called that!
The message says that Qt detected an error while writing the file and was not able to finish the operation by copying the temporary file into the final destination. Maybe there is a timeout from time to time. Have you ever encountered other oddities while working with your network drive, like, e.g., long access times?
Actually, on 8.0.90 I now occasionally receive the following message after "Save and Run", "The changes could not be saved to the file ... "
The program then proceeds to run the previous version of the script. Workout is to save, then run.
Perfect.
I'm going to close this as fixed even without knowing which changeset did it.
I'm happy to report that this behavior does not occur in version 8.0.90
As far as "Save and Run" vs just "Save", it would occur with both. But also it would randomly happen with the application sitting there idle. Directly after "Save and Run" is where I saw it most, but that's also my typical workflow.
Does this only happen when clicking "Save & Run" or also when saving only?
Thank you for your report.
Could you please check if this is still an issue with the release candidate for Octave 8? You could download that from here: https://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/octave/?C=M;O=D
When working in the GUI and editor, I constantly get a message asking if I want to reload my script file. "... Has been modified by another application". The editor is becoming almost unusable as I get the message every time I click "Save File and Run", and sometimes in between when editing files.
However the file isn't open anywhere else. It feels like Octave is wrongly identifying a change to the script file.
If I change the option Editor > File Handling > Reload externally changed files without prompting, then I occasionally loose edits right as I am typing them.
This has been happening for a number of releases of octave, though I haven't gone back to verify if there's a version that this doesn't happen on.
Notably, this only seems to occur when using a network drive. Local C drive files do not produce this behavior.
