Thanks for that change.
With a build from early October, the edge of the title bar of a docked widget is more clearly distinguishable to me. See attached screenshot.

Closing as fixed.

I have pushed changeset http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/94488ab70e12 to the default branch with custom title bars as default setting and new default values for the custom title colors.

I left the default style at "default" since the old "windows" style is really quite ugly on newer windows versions.

Yep, sorry for that, a common pitfall on Savannah ...

Your screenshot is missing... The attachment field gets cleared when you click the "preview" button.

cc'ing Torsten, the GUI expert.
Torsten would it be possible to make the settings suggested in comment #4 the default, please?

I am using IrfanView to create the screen shot. It has a lot of trigger options for screenshots like timed, hotkey or mouse trigger and one option allows to include the mouse cursor. As I found out with the mouse is imaged not at the original position, so there might be a bug in irfanview too.

The lower priority if fine for me. Th custom scheme is a perfect workaround and makes the GUI much more productive.

To formulate the feature request resulting from this thread explicitly:

The default GUI scheme on windows should look like the current combination of "windows" scheme with current default settings in "custom" style. I have attached a screen shot of the preferences and of the window style.

Would you agree with this?

Hmm, as soon as I hit <Windows><Shift><S>  to make a screen shot, the cursor disappears completely - how did you get your screen shots together?

I agree that the default color scheme could be improved - at least on Windows, but that applies a fortiori for many many other SW, notably Windows Explorer, MS-Office, Edge and other MS programs (don't get me started...)  Yet few people seem to complain about those.
At least Octave offers a reasonably usable workaround.

I hope you don't mind me lowering severity / priority and make it a feature request.

I just mentioned that I accidentally used 7.1.0 not 7.2.0. But I just checked it with 7.2.0 and it looks identically.

I tried your hint changing the style from "default" to "Windows", what improved the situation slightly. Setting custom style makes the title bar of command window clearly visible an thus is much nicer to use. I would recommend setting at least one of these two options as default for a windows build.

P.S.: I recorded the screenshots and found that mouse position on the screen shot is two or three pixel higher that when activating the screen shot. But the offset of the pull handle is still existent.

+1
I've noted this some years ago as well and reported it, but maybe in passing in another bug report about the GUI. I can't find it ATM but didn't search hard.

What you can do to mitigate this somewhat is click Edit|Preferences, General tab, click "Custom style" and fiddle with the settings next to it (3D style & color settings).
Or maybe try some other theme (in the same Preferences tab).

Let us know if this works for you.

When using docked windows in GUI I have the editor window above and command window below. Trying to move the window boundary up or down in the GUI is difficult, because the grabbing line is invisible in standard layout.

I have appended a screen shot including the mouse pointer positioned over the invisible drag handle. The drag position is several pixels below the visible editor window boundary. This is very irritating.

I would like to have a visible line at the dragging position / window border.

Thanks!
