No further feedback in more than six weeks.

Closing report. It can be re-opened if more feedback and instructions how to reproduce are provided.

I tried to reproduce the issue here. But I'm struggling to understand the steps. How do you snap the window "to both left and right sides of the screen"? Is there a key combination for that? Using the mouse, I only manage to snap it to either the left or the right side or run it in full screen. Neither of that leads to a crash for me when starting Octave again.

Do you have multiple screens? Hi-DPI? Something else that could be important?

For those having this issue, try deleting the configuration file, as sugested by someone above. I noticed that, in my specific case, the app (GUI, CLI works fine) crashes when i try to snap its window to both left and right sides of the screen, and when trying to open it again, it keeps opening on the side it was previously snapped to, and it just crashes every time. By deleting the configuration file, the app opens in fullscreen mode and everything works as expected. I've been using octave for a while now and have never seen anything like this in previous versions. I think it's also relevant to say that i'm running windows 11 on my computer.

that was a great troubleshooting exercise. in this case, though, it says the window opens then immediately closes. that sounds more like the gui settings issue reported in numerous other bug reports.

How did you install octave.  from the .exe installer?

are you able to run the command line version of Octave? (The windows installer should have created an 'Octave CLI' icon, or the main startup icon can be edited to add --no-gui to the end).

Have you used any other versions of Octave before 7.1.0? If so did you have any problems with them?

Several people have had success deleting the GUI settings file so that everything resets to default. The file is located at:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\octave\octave-gui.ini

After deleting or moving this file, start Octave normally. If it can't see the file there it will create a new one from defaults.  We haven't yet identified why this problem occurs. if it fixes the problem, it may help if you can upload the old ini file here

"I installed Octave and when I went to type the commands it just starts loading and closes itself (this the first time I opened). Now it doesn't even open properly, it starts loading, but it soon closes, nor does the time to type."

Instalei o Octave e quando fui digitar os comandos ele simplesmente começa a carregar e se fecha sozinho (isso na primeira vez que abri). Agora ele nem abre corretamente, ele começa a carregar, mas logo fecha, nem da tempo de digitar.
