You could maybe ask the snap packager if he'd consider adding `pstoedit` to the snap package:
https://github.com/octave-snap/octave-snap/issues

Afaict, this isn't something that can be changed by Octave itself.
Closing as invalid.

Thanks for the hint with "sandbox". I thought that there is a trick and I was not aware of the sandbox principals.
And yes, "pstoedit" seems not to be part of the octave-sandbox.

Is the `pstoedit` you are trying to execute part of the snap package?

IIUC, snap apps are running in a sandbox and cannot execute binaries from outside that sandbox. See also:

On Unbuntu 20.04 via snap.

P.S.:
Today I tried the same on a window machine
and there I can execute "pstoedt.exe"

How did you install Octave (apt, snap, flatpak, ...)?

Octave refuses to find the binary "pstoedit",
even if shell command "which pstoedit" shows a valid location of "pstoedit".
To demonstrate the issue I attach a small script.
Octave refuses to find pstoedit, even if I change into this directory, where the binary pstoedit is loacted.
