I failed to attach the two pictures for the original submission. On before.png it is a normal maximized window with a title bar and shares the screen with the dock and the top bar in GNOME. When it was opened next time it was fully maximized, taking the whole screen like F11 was pressed.

The GUI gets into a weird full screen mode(after.png) after exiting Octave with the window maximized(before.png) and can only be restored by "Restore default window layout".
