This is the oldest known issue of opengl based graphics toolkits: bug #32980. Basically, this is a consequence of OpenGL using single precision arithmetic. See also bug #59418 about documenting the available workarounds (basically rescaling the data when it is possible, or using the gnuplot tookit) until this gets fixed.

When the plot range is small compared to the absolute value, the plot produces an incorrect image.


This is for example very noticable when plotting a function against a date number. If the plot axis range is limited to a few hours,we have a situation similar to the above example.
