I am going to have to eat crow with you on this.  I rebuilt all the libraries and octave no longer segfaults.  You were correct to close this as a packaging or configuration error.  Sorry and thank you for your help Markus.

I realize that I had to build a 64-bit arpack-ng as well as other fortran libraries.  I have done so following https://gitlab.com/mtmiller/octave-blas64-builder.

To follow my steps.  I built lapack, arpack, qrupdate and suitesparse as 64-bit.  Then I installed the libraries and built octave.  My build command for octave was ...

../configure --prefix=/opt/octave --config-cache --with-blas=/usr/lib/libblas.so --with-lapack=/usr/lib/liblapack.so CPPFLAGS=-DLONGBLAS=long -DBLAS64 F77_INTEGER_8_FLAG=-fdefault-integer-8

And I get ...

checking BLAS library integer size... 8

Octave does execute, but just segfaults during the test build phase.  I can use the --gui, etc.  I will go over my steps, but I believe this is a legitimate bug and you have closed it in haste.

Does 64bit blas mean that it uses 64bit integers?
If it does, ARPACK must be compiled to use 64bit integers, too.

In that case, this is not a bug in Octave but a packaging or configuration error.
Closing as invalid.

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for the patch.  It fixes the build error difficulties I had with arpack-ng, but didn't fix the segfault when I test eigs.m.

The gdb output is a little different though.  My function in question is now dseupd rather than dseupd_.  The rest from gdb is pretty much the same, might this be an error I'm getting because I am using a 64 bit blas?

Since the crash occurred in libarpack, the error you saw on compilation might be related.
There is a patch in MXE Octave that cherry-picks some changes from the ARPACK-NG development branch:
https://hg.octave.org/mxe-octave/file/tip/src/arpack-1-gcc10.patch

I was happy when the buildbot built successfully with these changes. That buildbot doesn't run the test suite. So I don't know if it actually works.

Could you check if that patch fixes the issue for you?

Hello,

I have just built octave, HG ID ec9efcc717cc, and am getting segfault when I try to run scripts/sparse/eigs.m  I have looked at it under gdb and it is related to QThread.  Here is what gdb has to say.

chris [ ~/temp ]$ gdb --args octave --eval "test /sources/octave/octave-blas64-builder/octave/scripts/sparse/eigs.m"
