The build without -j2 looks OK. So, there does appear
to be a problem with -j > 1, but that is a separate issue.

Am closing this.

This may have been a false alarm. I just rebuilt Octave and
installed it. It appears to be back to normal. Will do more
testing.

The change from my previous build was that then I used
make -j2. This crashed, so I completed the build with make
and then installed. I suspect that the crash left things
in an incorrect state.

When I have a chance I will do some more testing...

Also, I should have added, this is:
uname -a
Linux pbdsl4 5.2.7-200.fc30.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Aug 8 05:35:29 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

and I recently updated to this kernel.

Dmitri: I will try that. But, fltk seems to work, so
the problem is at least mainly with 'qt'.

LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 seems to have no effect.

I cannot reproduce the problem.

Did you try LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 trick?

Dmitri.

Additional info: octave-cli seems to work correctly.

As of recent hg: HG ID for this build is "656975e34595"

handling of grid lines is broken. Behavior is
random. grid ('on'); grid('off') only sometimes
work. Clicking on the plot icons also is random.
Most recently, when grid is OFF, clicking on grid OFF
turns grid back on!
And, even more strangely sometimes the grid marks fade out
from left to right.
